Being in the Cascadia Subduction zone http://www.pnsn.org/NEWS/PRESS_RELEASES/2004Tsunami.html

The earth is going through a period of instability as is my work place. About 70 people were laid off this week from various depts in our larger org. They were basically automated out of a job. We don't typically experience layoffs here so it was a big shock to everyone and a wake up call to a lot of people.

Makes you think about how much you spend, could you get by on one income, medical benefits...and then of all the people that work so hard here. Who live to work instead of work to live. Apparently, a man attempted to lure her into his car.

Now I'm not even going to get into the why was she walking home from school alone...at seven years old. She was smart enough to go straight home and tell her mom. She got a pretty good description of the car and perp. If her mom was home why wasn't she at the bus stop??

2nd bit of bad news
My contract worker had a death in the family. Her cousins 10 year old finally succumbed to leukemia. After a year long struggle. I was crying as she told me the whole story. Just so incredibly sad. The parents are just inconsolable. I can't imagine their pain.

It's been a very emotional time....tsunami, Iraq, so many young ones dying.

Project Runway

Last night on Project Runway, the designers had to come up with an outfit and new look for Sarah who is described as an "up and coming rock star" It's whittled down to three options. The Don, Survivor, Bachelor/ette....I've pretty much stayed out of the fracas....but last night I came across two shows. One good and one heinous.

Heinous
Love is in the Heir...That princess who is not a princess of anywhere (descended in some manner from Persian royalty...whatever) she needs to SHUT UP. A few queens trump a wanna be princess any day!! Add a few neurotics, a Brit and a himbo and you've got a great show a la The Apprentice with weekly eliminations as a band of 12 clothing designer hopefuls widdle down through competitions. I watched the first three episodes in one night. Wednesday night at 10pm I'll be seeing who gets ousted next!!!

Heidi Klum, the hostess, has her own signature "you're fired" a much weaker Auf Weidersehn

Guys and Dolls

I used to think it was nice when a guy held the door open and let a woman walk through first.....
Now I realize they probably just want to get a good look at your butt as you sashay through the door....

You know how most guys have a name for their little friend....I know it has a head, but it doesn't need a name...it already has a body part name for crying out loud. Both of them are much thinner than in the first film (done 10 years apart). Ethan Hawke looked gaunt, tired and unhealthy. What the heck did Uma do to him?? He was born in 1970...not sure why he looks so spent. Julie Delpy, on the other hand, looked thinner, but had aged much better.

In Before Sunrise, he was kind of greasy and playful. In Before Sunset, he was in a much different frame of mind and he looked like he had a rough 10 years.

Both films were enjoyable. LOTS of dialog. It got a bit tiring to keep up with the speed of their conversation.

The OC is getting really cheeseball

Man, is the OC getting cheesy.
